Winding Down

After clinic yesterday (real pt day) I was really REALLY tired. I think it was just a combination of the excited stress and anxiety and the actual work that wore me out. Professor Costley was not able to have class today, but we had anatomy still. So we are off until finals week. I am really looking forward to the break-both Thanksgiving and for Christmas!

Real PT day...

Today was the real pt day. It went surprisingly well! I am totally exhausted, but also happy and relieved that it wen well and that it is done! I think only about a million more times before I will be ready to take the board! My cute niece Kami came today and was my pt. She did great.

Happy Bithday Gavin

Today Gavin turned 5. He is such a cute little kid. To celebrate his birthday we went to a hotel. Katie from school works at the one in Logan, and she hooked us up with a great deal. The kids really didn't even mind it was about 3 minutes away. They had a great time, and so did I. School is winding down, and I am ready for a break. I am REALLY glad that our finals are not comprehensive, it does help to ease the stress... a little anyways.

Mock pt day

Today was my turn as the operator for our mock pt day. It was just like the real thing from start to finish. It went well for the most part. The time crunch can be a bit frustrating, but I am sure that will come with time.

Power PE day

Today in clinic we passed off three PE's...big ones too! Air powder polishing-which went better than on monday-Sealants, and instrument sharpening. It went well. We have one PE to pass off for the semester and that is GREAT!

Air Powder Polisher...ugh!

Today in clinic we used the air powder polisher and did some sealants and each other. The sealants went well, and I think will get easier with practice, but it went well. Air powder polishing on the other hand...was not my favorite. We survived it, but it was not my favorite. All of the hygienists that I have asked said they don't really ever use it in practice. But we know how to do it, which is good.

Mock PT

Today was my turn as the operator in our mock pt. experience. It went well, but made me realize how fast the time goes when working on a pt. There is SO much to do, in a short period of time!

Happy Halloween!

Today is Halloween, and we dressed up...well most of us anyways. We had class, then we had a Halloween party with both the Jr's and the Sr's. Time is really going by fast, and I am enjoying getting to know all of the other girls in my class.

Selective Polishing

Today we used our handpieces and it was great. I am familiar with it, so it was nice to be able to just go through the practice and be done. We are also caught up on all our PE's and that is a nice feeling. The semester is winding down, and I am glad for that. It has gone by fast, and that is good too!

Practice, Practice, Practice

Today was a good day for practice. We worked with the Barnhart and the Nebraska and I am feeling much better about the Barnhart. I think that was just a weird day. Today in radiology we took a practical test, and it went well. Things are going well, it is crazy this is the last week of October!

Darn Barnhart

Today we used the Barnhart, and it is going to take some getting used to! Clinic went well, but I am going to need some extra practice with this one! This week is another test week...anatomy is done and went well, BUT hygiene is coming up later this week so I better get studying for that one!

Scaling

Today was our second day of scaling, and it is really fun. Sounds weird, but very true. I still need to practice indirect vision, but I am feeling more and more comfortable with it.

Radiology

Radiology is going well. I really enjoy Professor McConaghy (even though I can't spell her last name). I am also glad to have some experience taking x-rays. My years as a dental assistant have really helped in making dental hygiene school more familiar...in some ways.

Dis-gusting...I mean DISCLOSING!

Just kidding, it wasn't really too bad. It was interesting, and even though my PFI% was horrible, it was a good day in clinic.

Intra and charting

Today in clinic we passed off our intra-oral PE and worked on charting. Pretty darn fun! And I am glad to report that the air conditioning IS fixed! Turns out I won't have to wear my bikini-which is a VERY good thing! That would just gross out a lot of people!!!

Holy BLAZES!

Today in clinic went well, except...it was SO BLASTED HOT! I really don't mind the heat too much, if I were laying on the beach in Hawaii per say...bring on the heat! But as I am gloved, masked, and working on poor Julie, it is not a good thing! Hopefully they will have this heat wave under control for tomorrow...or I may cry. I think I will wear my bikini under my clothes just in case I need to strip down in anatomy tomorrow. Who wants to join me?

Testing...Testing...Testing!

This week is full of TESTS! So far so good though. I am glad to finally be in the "swing" of things and feeling more at ease. Things are going well and I am "enjoying" myself! Yesterday in clinic we probed each other...sounds interesting I know, and believe me it was!!!

Happy Birthday to Jeremy

Today is Jeremy's 30th birthday! I really can't believe he is that OLD! Today to celebrate his big day...I studied. Lame, I know. But will celebrated earlier in the year by taking an AWESOME trip to MAUI! It was great. I think when I am done studying, we will look at our Maui pictures and relive the trip.

Another day in the clinic.

Today was a good day. We worked on mirror fulcrum, and it was a good hands on experience. My pod partner caught me with her probe a couple of times, but luckily it was not a sharp instrument! I am sure I will get her in the future...of course not on purpose ;)

Clinic

Today was our second Monday. It is going well. I am feeling better about the schedule and getting use to the process.

Clinic

Monday and Wednesdays are clinic days for me. I really enjoy the hands on way of learning. Our "Julies" are both very nice and helpful in teaching and helping us understand the information and procedures. I am still feeling a bit overwhelmed, but am feeling a bit better. I hope I can get it all together soon. UGH

First PE

Today I passed off my first PE. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be! The other students and the instructors were very helpful.

First Day...Whew!!!

Today was the first day of my dental hygiene experience. All things considered...it went well. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed, but I am hopeful that will pass quickly. I am excited to get to know all of the other students, and the faculty seems very helpful. First day is done, wahoo!

Happy Birthday Teagan!

Teagan turned 6 yrs old today! To celebrate we took a trip to Park City and stayed in the condo, and had a great time. We swam, went to the movie, went to dinner, and had an all around great time. My head is still spinning from all of the "newness" of hygiene school, but I have high hopes that all will even out soon.

My First Post!

Hello! This is my first post to my dental hygiene blog!
