MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Today we wrapped up the semester, it has flown by. I took my final and met with Prof. Alexander. It is great to have my LAST fall semester under my belt. I am looking forward to the Christmas break and a little R & R in preparation for the things to come. Now...on to the next.

Oh Boy Am I Thankful

This week my week consisted of one class on Monday...and then I left Weber State campus and didn't go back for a whole week! I am glad for the break. I love Thanksgiving, of course for all of the delicious food, but I also like to force myself to really think about the blessing I have been given. I have a wonder family that I adore who support and love me, and bring so much joy and happiness to my life. I am also really grateful to be in my senior year of the dental hygiene program. This year has been so enjoyable. The work and effort is tremendous, but I am not one to shy away from hard work. The professors that we work with in our second year really are so helpful and teach us a lot, all while treating us like grown up humans. I really am blessed.

cutie kiddos

Today at the WSU clinic we had a lab. Then for my afternoon pt I went back to Brigham to get my two cute kiddos to clean their teeth. They are always so excited to come, and do so well. I was able to get them both done, as well as some sealants. They also love to stop by Costco on the way home for a snack.

Last VA

So today was our last VA day for the semester. It feels great to be done for a while. The VA for me is a great place to get a lot accomplished. We are taking a mid morning pt. now so I am able to get 12 quads in a day usually. I don't see a lot of perio, but the quads are nice. I am doing well with pano's thanks to the VA as well.

Today

So we are getting close to being done with this semester. Things are going well. I counted up the requirements and as of today I have 24 extra quads. Which is great. I am not quite half way on class three requirements, but not to worry...that will work out. Today niether one of my scheduled pts showed. So this morning Katee and I did the CRA on each other and I also did blood glucose. Then this afternoon when my pt didn't show Shaylee had a couple of quads of a 2 that she needed help with while she traded someone for a couple of quads of a class 3. So all in all everything worked out dandily. (Yep on my blog "dandily" is a real word.)

NO N20

Today in dental meds we learned about nitrous...but we didn't have the lab because Dr. Naylor was not there. So well be doing it later. That's going to be a relaxing couple of hours =)

LAB

Today we had a lab for the morning portion of clinic. It was good to go through the information, Then in the afternoon I had a new pt. it went well. I gave her 4 injections, which is my first on a pt for tx. she had "less than perfect" landmarks but I got it done!

Perhaps this is my most flattering view...thank you Denver =) But really this is me having a whole lot of fun. Thanks to my good buddy Savan! She is a trooper. I have really enjoyed anesthesia (what a warped RDH thing to say!) I really have not been nervous...maybe that should concern me?

Mock Board #1

Well today was my first mockboard experience. Overall, it was an awesome LEARNING experience. I fell short by just a bit, but learned great lessons. To start off, my pt was late, so i barely made check in. At each step of the process I stressed a tad. Then once my pt was checked in I worried that she wouldn't qualify. But as I waited and waited I thought that maybe I should have been more confident in her qualifying...lesson learned. Then as i began to clean, i worried that i wouldn't have enough time, I felt really good about the removal, but what do i know! I had four errors, which isn't great but not the end of the world...this time. I think if i do this 100 more time perhaps I will be ready by March =)

THE VA

So every other week we travel to SLC to the VA dental clinic. The building is new and beautiful, and I love the classmates I am there with. However, the VA can be a very good thing and also a NOT so good thing. It is nice because pt are provided...usually, and we don't have the scheduling headache we usually do.But when after a whole day you walk out with 2 quads of a class 5 for the day it can be a little frustrating. My morning pt had some pretty serious mental problems which made it a little interesting. But overall I know the VA is a good opportunity for us, and has the potential of giving us some vaulable experience.

School

School is going well. I am so glad to be in my senior year! Time is going by so quickly all ready. I know I have a lot to learn still, but I am feeling very good about school. I am sure there will be some ups and downs but I am optomistic about the year to come. This year has all ready been so much more enjoyable for me all ready. I really enjoy all of your professors and instructors and am really greatful for the way they teach us. I feel like they really care that we do sincerely learn what we need to know to be successful

What a day...

Well...do start things out...last night Jeremy called to confirm my spanish speaking pt. and got hung up on. So this morning when it was 10 after i figured i should start looking for another pt. so I had the clinic call and just double check with my scheduled pt and BEHOLD she was on her way. She was late, but she was here. So i took some x-rays, did the OD, etc etc. I knew she was going to be a challenge, but I had no idea, just how much of a TENACIOUS one. so i am generally over eager to finish a pt and stupid me went for it. long story short, I will be scaling again at her next appointment...BUT not all is lost. she is going to be my mock board pt. so that is a good thing. sad that i was the LAST human for miles when it was lunch time. alas.
then second pt for the day was a 1B with some really cool GREEN stain on the mandibular linguals. pretty fun...tomorrow is anesthesia day. MUAAAAH

CA @VA...OK!

Today I was the CA at the VA and it was a good day. They went through a few more things with this group, so it was nice to see that. VA days are very long for me, but I really do enjoy going there. Tomorrow is first day back to PT treatment at WSU and I hope all goes well.

Here we go!

Today was my first day back in a mouth. We were at the VA and they pretty much just threw us in the deep end! It was great though. Prof. Hanson was there and was SO helpful. I completed 2 quads of a 3 and a quad of a 2. It was a total whirlwind...but why not?

All most there.

Today was the last monday clinic for me EVER! It hasn't really sunk in yet. I am kind of just on auto pilot at this point. But I saw my little niece that is 4. She was born with at bi-lateral cleft lip and palate. She did a great job, but was very sensitive to anything being in her mouth. I felt really bad when she started to cry with my mirror in her mouth. But everything worked out ok and I took some intra-oral pictures that were pretty interesting.

LA Mock board pt

Today I was my peer pals LA mock board pt. It was a good experience and it really wasn't too bad. It wasn't the funnest thing I did today, but in general it was all right. I really hope my peer pal will be willing to do the same for me.

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

OH Yeah!

Today I saw my class 3 pt. and it was AWESOME! There was calculus everywhere...really really great. He was a great pt and everything went well. Surprising what a relief comes when all your requirements for 1st year are complete!

Follow the Light

There is finally a little bit of light at the end of this long dark hygiene tunnel. Today I had 2 quads of a class 3. It went great, and I really feel like I may be able to make it 2 and a half more weeks. After all of the challenges, I am starting really believe that all will work out. I know I know...o ye of little faith.

The Blazing Inferno ;..(

So the past few weeks I have been really struggling with all of my life callings...mommy, wife, work, and most of all SCHOOL! I have lost all motivation, and have cut back to strictly survival tasks. Sleep (a little), eat (a lot), and go to school (the most). I am so ready for a break, I can hardly stand it. Then to add to all of the goings on...we had a fire. Well not technically a true fire, but there was burn damage. Overnight the autoclave was left on...and our instruments were TOAST. I was the CA that day, and I feel horrible. There was a total miscommunication, and the end result was a bunch of crispy instruments. On one hand I feel responsible, and on the other I can recognize I was not the only factor in the equation. But lesson learned, and I am very grateful for my classmates kindness and understanding. I am also grateful that I will most likely never have to be the clinic CA again ;)

Back in the swing of things!

today is the first day back to school from spring break. it was hard to get out of bed, and come to school. but my pt was awesome and got some good things done, so i guess it is good that i got out of bed.

Counseling session

Today I had my counseling session with Prof. Costley. It was good to sit down and see that I am not actually as far behind as i feel. The end of the semester is creeping up and will be here before I know it, hopefully I can get all of my requirements in before then!

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

AHHH!

So clinic is going pretty well....all except that for some reason I am really behind! A lot of people are coming to the end of their requirements, at least most. And I am pretty much NOT! But, hopefully I will be able to get to work, and get a lot done. The semester is going quickly (which is FINE by me) but I am getting a little concerned that I will be able to get it all done.

Ugh, RRR, UGH!

Well today I had another no show day...rrrr! It is frustrating to think all is well, then to have everything fall apart at the last minute is FRUSTRATING. Did I mention that today was frustrating!? But all is not lost, Kelsie was nice enough to let me pass off some PE's on her. Oh well on to the next I suppose.

1B, 1B, 1B

Well, here we are half way through the second semester (WAHOO!!!) and I have yet to see anything (other than my 1A's) but a 1B, no II's or III's yet, but hopefully that will soon change.

Trying to keep up!

Well, this semester is going...and going fast. We are all ready coming to the end of the first month. Classes are going well, clinic is too. It is just hard to find pt. Every single pt the clinic has sent me has not worked out. Very frustrating! I don't have a large family, so my options are limited! But hopefully it will work out.

Cutest 1A's! YEA!

Today I had the cutest two little pts! They were 5 and 6 and were very good little kids...their mom was a little stern but I think it was necessary. Ok ok...no more masquerades. They were my kids and I am the stern mom. But it went well and I got them both done. YEA 1A!

FMX frustrations

Well I attempted a FMX on my awesome husband Jeremy. Poor guy. He was so awesome, but the digital choice did not go so awesome. But we made it through...and i guess that is all that really matters.

Second Semester

Here we are all ready...well under way in the second semester. We are seeing pt. every clinic, and it is a little stressful finding them for every other day. But I think it really is the only way to get the experience we need. I am still getting familiar with all of the ins and outs, but feel like it its going well.
